Anonymous hacks Nazis, reveals BNP links
Not much time to post this one, but it’s worth putting about. Hacktivist collective and occasional anti-authoritarian protesters Anonymous have caught another fish in the trawler net of Operation Blitzkrieg:
The group infiltrated the site of American Third Position, a white nationalist political group, in a campaign ironically dubbed “Operation Blitzkrieg”, publishing emails in which it praised the BNP leader, Nick Griffin.
In one January 2010 email from “WhiteNewsNow” with the subject “Your Beautiful Pontoon Bridge”, Griffin is described as “probably the most effective white activist in the world today”.
A member of the group writes: “I’ve got my tickets for Jared Taylor’s 2010 American Renaissance. Your fellow WhiteNewsNow members [...] are meeting up with some more of us and probably the most effective White activist in the world today, Nick Griffin.”
In another from December 2009, the sender refers to Griffin in an email about the Copenhagen climate conference. It states: “Today will definitely be a Pearl Harbor for the Global Warming criminals who are at this moment cringing in the 4,200-seat arena in Copenhagen where Nick Griffin is clobbering them with the truth about Climategate. Good things are happening … and this is our chance to seize the opportunity.”

It should hardly shake the world around the ears of anyone who has been involved in anti-fascist or anti-racist politics for long, but Nazi groups are just as interested in making tactical alliances as their opposition. Indeed, the lure of making links across the ocean carries the added value that supporting the politics of similarly-minded groups in other countries rarely carries the same risk of syphoning off support for their own cult.
Not convinced? Well, how about Chris Hurst, the BNP’s London Regional Secretary, throwing Nazi salutes at a gathering of Hungarian fascists, as exposed by a journalist with the Sun newspaper? How about bully-boy racist street-fighting organisation the EDL partnering with a hardcore Zionist group to “work together on joint projects”?
Fascists and racists of all stripes share more than their lobotomised ideology — they also share a disregard for democracy, hatred and fear of unity between social groups and a dual strategy based on attempting to drag mainstream political discourse into their domain, while sowing division and fear with organised violence on the streets. The only way for the majority of people who are sickened by their rhetoric and actions is to do likewise; to build the maximum of unity around the restricted goal of smashing the racists off the streets and out our council chambers and parliaments.
